Since writing my original review, I had my son ask me for a milkshake, and decided to give Freddy's a shot. Their milkshakes are absolutely amazing. If they got rid of their food, this place would be a 5 star milkshake place. The milkshake itself is very good, but the great thing is that they really don't skimp on whichever candy you get in your shake.

New to this market, but Culver's need not be concerned. I'm not a fan of ultra thin fries and charred beef.

Quick and easy. Everything tastes great. The fries are shoestring style which is too bad but it's my fault for ordering them :)

I visited Freddy's at dinner hour and chose to dine in. The service was fast, very friendly, and efficient. I had the double California style burger. The patties are quite thin and crispy like Culvers... I liked the burger even though I'm not buying into the "Steak burger" label. It's ground beef with seasoning. The prices were in line with other hamburger places but I thought in terms of service, food quality, and atmosphere, they were way above the "golden arches" or Hardee's. The employees were friendly and professional and the store was spotlessly clean. That's what's killing the two burger joints previously mentioned. There was one aspect of my meal I was not fond of. Not to be too nitpicky, but I do not like skinny fries and these were as thin as a Nordstrom clothing model. My concern is the amount of oil absorbed (more surface area) as well as the difficulty handling the extremely thin fries (I have arthritis and it seemed like handling fried sticks of spaghetti). In terms of the reviews about the drive-up service, I would take some of that worth a grain of seasoning salt. Not unexpectedly, most fast food people will tell you drive-up customers are often some of the biggest whiners - often people too lazy to cook or even get out of the car. Anyway, I really liked Freddy's and will probably come back one of these days and try some other offerings and maybe skipping the fries. I hope they do well but as others have stated, this is a pretty saturated market.

First off the place is clean, inviting and employees friendly. The burgers were good, greasy but had good flavor. I got the California double. Get a double because the burgers are fried paper thin. The onion rings were forgettable. The fries thin and greasy. But I prefer thick fries personally. The pop had a chlorine flavor. My husband and I got two different kinds and both had that taste. I thought maybe it was the ice so I dumped it and tried it without, still tasted like bleach. My husband will probably return. I'm indifferent.

I'm always excited to see new restaurants in Cedar Rapids that I've never heard of. However when I saw the sign displaying, "frozen custard and butter burgers"I immediately thought of Culver's and Steak and Shake. This market is saturated in Cedar Rapids and apparently doesn't work well (steak and shake). So after a 20 minute wait in the drive through with a total of 3 cars in front of me I received a pretty ugly looking sandwich. I got it California style and it lacked an adequate amount of sauce. The texture of the beef is great and an expected experience from Freddy's rivals. Everything else is pretty bland. The full onion slice is overbearing and the bun too greasy. Overall I would expect better presentation and cleanliness of the box (mustard stained and greasy) after waiting too long in the drive through. I could grind my own beef and grill my own burger in that time. The only thing keeping this review dorm being 1 star is the fries. They are a great size with perfect crunch. Leave the experience and hamburger segment up to Culver's.

Culvers is still my favorite,, if they would get the orders right coming thru drive thru they would of gotten a 4 star.. but until that happens...

The interior is decorated well in bright red colors and everything is spic and span. I thought having separate counters for ordering and pick-up was unique. The food is above average for fast food, on par with Culver's. I did like the the fry sauce. I agree with my Yelp buddy Bradford that the super skinny fries are difficult to eat. I prefer Culver's fries. I had the Chicago dog which is made with a real Vienna Beef hot dog. Not authentic from a foodie's criteria but good eats none-the-less.

First visit to Freddy's today. Staff was friendly and prompt. Bathrooms and restaurant were clean and bright. I liked the shoestring fries and didn't find them to be too greasy. They could've used a bit of salt but they were excellent with the fry sauce which they put in to-go cups for me since my order was to-go. I was pleasantly surprised the sauce was no extra charge! Burger was tasty; I got California style and planned to eat in the car. I'm glad I ate in the parking lot. Between the special sauce and juicy tomato I made kind of a mess of the burger but it was very yummy. I found the burgers to be nicely crispy and the bun wasn't so much bread it overpowered all the burger & toppings like at some places. I'll definitely be back to try other menu items and the sweets!!

Similar to culvers although unique enough to make it worth going. Portions are smaller but still good. The special sauce is what makes the rating higher than maybe it should be.

Slowest drive through in existence. Three cars started ahead of me but I'm still in line 20 minutes later with one car in front of me. I hope the food is at least decent. ***Added after getting my food and eating*** Now that I actually received my food I figured I'd complete my review and adjust my rating down to one star from two. I'll preface this by saying they haven't been open very long and it's obvious the team still hasn't gotten their processes down pat. 1. From my time of order to receiving my food took 25 minutes. When I placed my order there were three cars in front of me. Two of them had two people and one had one person. A total of five people. Three cars/five people and it still took me 25 minutes to get my food. 2. I got the wrong order. Since I was already in a bad mood from waiting in the drive through for 25 minutes I decided I'd take more time and go in and get the correct order. They were polite and fixed the order for me. Every employee there looks like a deer caught in the headlights. They are still learning and it's obvious. It took me an additional 10 minutes to get my order corrected so now my fast food drive through quick burger and fries had turned into 35 minutes 3. I finally made it home and opened my burger box. It was the wrong burger so they corrected my food but still didn't correct it. I'm an idiot for not opening it up there in front of them and checking it there. It just didn't occur to me that they'd get it wrong twice. 4. The actual food. Nothing special. Greasy thin patties on a soaking greasy wet bun. Cold thin fries. Most definitely not worth 35 minutes of my life and not worth the aggravation. If the service would have been fast and correct and the food warm (or better yet hot) then I'd say it wouldn't have been so bad. I would also like to point out there's a sign from the founder, Freddy, on the drive through menu which I will now paraphrase: "Rest assured that we will not start cooking your food until your order is placed...blah blah blah something about being hot and fresh." I can attest that my food was cold even though they had time to actually grind the beef themselves, harvest and hand cut the fries, cut down trees for a fire, turn the wood into charcoal and put it on a backyard grill. I'm exaggerating but not that much. In summary. I will give them another chance in a few months once the staff has had time to get good at their job. If I have a similar experience then I will never be back.

Most of these other reviews are ridiculous. I have been there three times now and have never waited more then probably 6-7 minutes. I will take there burgers over Culvers any day, Culvers burgers are all bun. The chili is also very good.

This was my first visit to Freddy's and I dislike commenting after only one visit but here it goes. I am not much of a fan of fast food restaurants and rarely visit, but when I do, my favorite hamburger joint is Culver's. Freddy's compared favorably to Culver's. I drove thru the drive-up with no problems and ordered a single burger with fries (multi-layered double/triple burgers stacked with bacon and whatnot is not my thing) . The burger was well grilled and tasty with condiments that included a piece of mild onion and a slice of a good kosher pickle. The potatoes were string-cut like those served at BurgerFry. String-cut is not my favorite kind of fries but Freddy's version were perfectly made and minimally salted and vastly superior to the awful string-cuts I had a month ago at BurgerFry. I will be visiting Freddy's again.

First time here. Lunch was decent just had their basic burger and fries. Never had the shoestring fries before but they were ok and they give you plenty of them. I would come again.

So glad to have Freddy's in CR! I've been a few times and each time ordered the single California burger (my dad always gets the Chicago dog freddys style, and really likes it). The sauce is awesome on the California burger and I really love the shoestring fries, something different than a lot of other places in town. Also, you can't go wrong with the custard - def recommend the mint Oreo custard. As expected when something new comes to CR, you can expect a little wait at peak times but it's totally worth it!!

Slow service, forgettable, greasy food and I received the wrong order. Save your money and grill your own burger.

I'm really not getting the bad reviews on this place, I thought the fries were fine, and although I thought the fries were thin, I thought they were super good. (I dont like overly thick fries.) They have a pretty decent sauce selection. I had a California style burger and I thought it was good and really had no issues with it at all. I enjoyed the sundae I had as well and thought the inside of the place was nice and clean, it seemed very well staffed. I would definitely pick this over Culvers any day.
